Guilty Pleasure - Eurovision Special: The Final Instalment

Here it is folks, my final tribute to all things Eurovision and what better way to end this spectacular special than with my favourite two acts to come out of the competition.

Consisting of Cheryl Baker, Jay Aston, Mike Nolan and Bobby G, Bucks Fizz represented the UK in the 1981 contest with Making Your Mind Up and won.

How Bucks Fizz managed to win the competition is beyond me. The singing was off key, the dancing amateurish and let's not even go there on the costumes. Despite this blot in Eurovision history, I am awfully glad they did win. If not for the competition, they would not have gone on to have a very successful career.

I turned 14 in 1981 and Bucks Fizz were without a doubt my favourite band and remained so for many years.
They released many singles, with three of them reaching number one in the UK. They were also very successful throughout Europe and even as far afield as Australia.

Of all the albums Bucks Fizz released, my favourite is Hand Cut which was released in 1983.

The artwork alone was worth the price I paid. Of all their album sleeves, this to me is the one that is the most visually stunning.

The reason I love this one the most is down to one track alone. That track is "I'd Like to Say I Love You".
It is such a beautiful song and I cannot believe the record company did not feel it worthy of a single release.
I am sure it would have proved to be a massive hit for them if they had.

Bucks Fizz are still performing, though they are now two separate groups. They have not had a hit single or album for years. Personally I think their demise from the charts was due to over exposure in the early 80's (Rihanna take heed) which resulted in the fans turning away from their music.
I was not one of those fans and continued to buy and listen to their music.

Of all the tracks Bucks Fizz recorded I have chosen my favourite three and they are:

Number 1 - I'd Like to Say I Love You
Number 2 - Tears on the Ballroom Floor
Number 3 - Golden Days

Whilst I love Bucks Fizz as a group, Cheryl Baker has always been my favourite and it was a travesty that her one attempt at a solo pop career went unnoticed. She released a fantastic version of "If Paradise is Half as Nice" and it should have been a massive hit for her.
I think I was one of the few that bought it and I still own it along with all my other Bucks Fizz albums and cd's.

I have two Bucks Fizz related dreams. One is to meet the original members of the group. The other is to write a musical based around their songs. I already have an outline for it and who knows, one day it may just happen

And so to the act who joins Bucks Fizz as my favourite to come out of Eurovision and who else could it be but the amazing Abba.
Consisting of Agnetha Faltskog, Anni-frid Lynstag, Benny Andersonn and Bjorn Ulveaus, they represented Sweden in the 1974 contest and won with Waterloo.

Abba went on to become one of the most successful acts to ever come out of Eurovision and one of the most successful bands in the world.
Selling millions of singles and albums, they were Sweden's biggest export for years. They are famous throughout the world and have influenced many of today's artists with their music.
How anyone can not like Abba is a mystery to me. Their music is ridiculously good and can be enjoyed by any age.

Of course, they have a huge gay following but I do not love Abba because I am gay. To me, ones sexual orientation does not determine who you will like music wise. That is not what music is about. Music is how it makes you feel inside. With their music, Abba have the ability to make you feel happy, sad, excited and many other feelings.

Abba split up many years ago and that alone is proof of how good they are as their music still sells by the millions.
There is always talk of a reunion and I know that if a concert were to be announced, it would sell out in an instant. One can hope that maybe one day they will make that announcement.

Choosing my favourite three Abba tracks was a difficult task. There are just so many that I love. Nevertheless I have managed it and here they are:

Number 1 - The Winner Takes it All
Number 2 - Thank You for the Music
Number 3 - Happy New Year

There is only one word to describe this song and that word is "perfection".

So there is..my favourite two acts from the many years of the contest.
I hope you have enjoyed reading my Eurovision Special. I have absolutely adored writing it and looking back at the many highlights.
If you agree or disagree with my choices, please feel free to send me a message or maybe even a comment about my blog in general. If you really like the blog then pass the link onto your friends. Whilst my specials have been for all ages, some of my earlier blogs are a little on the rude side so please be cautious if you do pass the link on.

All that is left for me to say is tune in Saturday 26th for the 2012 Eurovision Contest from Baku and wherever you are in the world, I hope you enjoy the show.

Until next time, I bid thee farewell.

Guilty Pleasure - Eurovision Special. The Sequel

As promised folks, here is who I believe should finish in the top 3 for this years Eurovision Song Contest being held in Baku.

In reverse order we start with:

Number 3 - Love Will Set You Free by Engelbert Humperdinck (UK)

At 75, Mr Humperdinck is one of the oldest artists to represent the UK in the contest.
Though I think he will struggle with the high note at the end, I still think the UK will do well with this beautiful ballad.

Number 2 - Standing Still by Roman Lob (Germany)

This song has already been a huge hit in Germany, reaching number 3 in the charts.
If it does well on the night,I can see it charting quite highly over here in the UK.
Mr Lob has the full package -  stunning looks, amazing voice and a lovely song. The only downside is the video is quite similar to one by the not as amazing Daniel Beddingfield.

Number 1 - La La Love by Ivi Adamou (Cyprus)

I do love my dance music and this entry from Cyprus is superb. It should do well with the gay audience and who knows, maybe this could be the year we see quite a few Eurovision hopefuls do well in the UK pop charts.

That's my top 3 for you. Do you agree with my choices or have I got it completely wrong?
There is only one way to find out and that is by tuning in to BBC1 on Saturday 26th May.

Until next time, I bid thee farewell.

Guilty Pleasure - Eurovision Special

So here it is folks. My all time favourite Eurovision song and I think quite a lot of you are going to think "really". Hopefully a few of you will also agree with my choice.

Number 1 - La Voix by Malena Ernman (Sweden)

That's right folks, La Voix is top of my Eurovision chart. I absolutely love this song. So much so,  I have listened to it on my ipod 238 times. More times than any other Eurovision song. Now that has to be some kind of record?

Malena represented Sweden in the 2009 contest. An opera singer, very famous in her home country and other parts of Europe, her coloratura mezzo-soprano vocals were put to good use in the song and to a dance soundtrack too. The whole thing blended perfectly to reveal what I believe to be a Eurovision classic.
Unfortunately, I think I was only person to think this as the song finished in 21st place. It failed to score with quite a few countries and only received low scores from those that did. Even the UK only gave it 1 point and that was probably courtesy of the gay audience.
I don't think it helped Sweden with Ms Ernman giving only an adequate performance on the night. On the high notes she was perfect but it was when she had to sing notes in a lower key that she had a few issues.
Here is the actual pop video to show you how it should have sounded.

I think you will agree that that sounds so much better doesn't it?

Despite the disastrous result in the contest, the song was released on download and cd.It reached number 2 in Sweden, number 19 in Finland, number 20 in Norway and 138 in the UK. Really UK..138? The UK position was, again, probably due to myself and a few more gays.

One thing that has surprised me the most is the lack of drag queens that have failed to incorporate this song into their routine. A lovely dress, blonde wig and a few scantily clad male dancers and hey presto, you have the start of a perfect nights entertainment.

I hope you have enjoyed my Eurovision Special as much as I have enjoyed looking back at the contest and writing about it. I've liked it so much, I have decided not to end on this edition of my blog.
Tune in next time when I will highlight my favourite three entries for this years Eurovision.

Until next time, I bid thee farewell.

Guilty Pleasure - Eurovision Special

Just two more to go folks. Any ideas as to which act is going to make number one? Why not leave a message and we will see if you guess correctly.
And so to my penultimate Eurovision favourite.

Number 2 - L'oiseau et l'enfant by Marie Myriam (France)

Born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Marie represented and won the contest for France in 1977 with this amazing song.
I love the French language, so it is no surprise that a song or two in the language would feature in my top 10 and this one simply is the best. I do not speak or even understand French but this song is pure pleasure to my ears.
The song was released in the UK under the title The Bird and the Child and reached number 42 in the charts. It really should have been top 10 and shame on us Brits for not making it so.

You will have noticed the lovely Angela Rippon at the start of the video, who hosted the contest for that year. Though I am a gay man, I have always had the slightest of crushes on Ms Rippon. I think it was the dance routine she did on the Morcambe and Wise show that was the cause of this crush. Now aged 67, she still looks as stunning now as she did back then.

Until next time, when I will reveal my number one Eurovision act, I bid thee farewell.

Friday 27 April 2012

Guilty Pleasure - Eurovision Special

So here we are folks...only 3 more to go on my Eurovision countdown.

Number 3 - Apres Toi by Vicky Leandros (Luxembourg)
Originally from Corfu, Vicky represented Luxembourg in the 1972 contest and won it with this beautiful ballad.
Already quite famous in the 60's, her win cemented her status as one of the biggest stars to come out of the contest.
Apres Toi was released all over the world and went on to sell over six million singles. In the UK it was released as "Come What May" and reached number 2 in the charts.

Ms Leandros continued releasing albums and singles during the 80's, 90's and 2000's and charted in countries as diverse as Greece, China, Canada and Japan. She has worked with the likes of Deep Purple, Demis Roussos, David Soul and Tony Christie to name just a few and continues to work in the music industry.

Until next time, I bid thee farewell.

Guilty Pleasure - Eurovision Special

The top spot in my countdown looms ever closer. Have any of your favourites featured in my chart. Maybe it's my next choice?

Number 4 - Hallelujah by Gali Atari and Milk and Honey (Israel)

This song won the 1979 contest but only just. Spain were in the lead and looked set for victory until they awarded 10 points to Israel.

Gali was a solo performer and joined Milk and Honey for Eurovision, leaving the band soon after.
The performance on the night was perfect and whilst the audience wasn't on the scale of recent Eurovisions, they received an astounding round of applause and were obviously one of the favourites.

The song itself takes me back to my childhood and reminds me of happy times with my family.
It's one of those songs that builds up as it goes along which I absolutely love.
After winning Eurovision, it did very well in the European charts, reaching number 5 in the UK.

Milk and Honey tried representing Israel in the contest two more times but failed to reach the final on both occasions.

Until next time, I bid thee farewell.

Wednesday 11 April 2012

Guilty Pleasure - Eurovision Special: Half way there!

That's right folks. We're at the half way stage with my Eurovision countdown. I hope you have liked my choices so far.
Ready for the next one?

Number 5 - This is My Life by Euroband (Iceland)
The duo are the very handsome Fridrik Omar Hjorleifsson and Regina Osk and they represented Iceland in the 2008 contest.
After giving one of the best performances of the night, they only managed to finish in 14th place. A top 5 placing was much deserved and one can only imagine how gutted they must have felt, especially as there were some absolutely appalling songs that scored better than Euroband. Proof, yet again, that tastes in music differ from Country to Country. Either that or there are lots of tone deaf viewers out there.

Never let it be said that Iceland cannot produce a good dance track. This one really is a beauty and I can just imagine myself and many other guys dancing our socks off to it in Queens Court. It could even warrant a dance around a pole too.

The song itself did not chart in the UK but  did reach number 2 in their home
country.
With the right amount of promotion, I honestly believe this song could have been a hit in the UK and Ireland and who knows, maybe even the USA?

Those of you who know your Eurovision may recognise the voice before the start of the above video. That's right, it is the legend that is Sir Terry Wogan who sadly hosts the show no more. The political scoring became too much and he wasn't enjoying hosting the show because of it. A sad loss for us Brits but he was replaced with a good choice in Graham Norton.

Until next time, I bid thee farewell.

Tuesday 10 April 2012

Guilty Pleasure - Eurovision Special

Welcome back to my Eurovision top 10 countdown and the next entry is a controversial choice due to the fact that it is mostly instrumental.

Number 6 - Love Symphony by Quartissimo featuring Martina Majerle (Slovenia)

Quartissimo are a string quartet who between them play the violin, viola and cello and play them rather well too. Martina, who originates from Croatia, joined the quartet for this Eurovision entry because rules state an entry must contain lyrics. Slovenia's entry was originally instrumental.

I absolutely adored this entry for the 2009 contest but, unfortunately for Slovenia, not many others did. It failed to reach the final having only scored 14 points in the semis.
Was the lack of support because we don't actually hear a word from Martina until 1 minute 14 seconds into the song? There is more instrumental than singing throughout the duration of the number and maybe viewers just did not perceive it as a song.
Whatever the reason for it's failure to make it to the next stage, I honestly believe it deserved to progress.

Unfortunately for Quartissimo, their track failed to make an impression on the pop or classical charts but thanks to the official Eurovision website, it is one of the many tracks on my ipod.

Until next time, I bid thee farewell and if you like what you have read, please feel free to leave me a message or ,better still, pass the link onto your friends and family.

Guilty Pleasure - Eurovision Special

Hi folks and welcome to the next recipient to earn a place in my Eurovision Top 10.
Without further ague, let us proceed.

Number 7 Alexander Rybak - Fairytale (Norway)

Winning the competition for Norway (though Alexander originates from Belarus)  in 2009 with a total of 387 points, the highest score in Eurovision's history, is this beautiful song.
Yes Mr Rybak is rather dashing and would look very nice on my arm but it is for the song that he features in my top 10.
I love the simplicity of the lyrics and in the way he delivers the vocal. Add to that his stunning violin playing and it's not hard to see why he was one of the favourites to win.
Alexander reached number 10 in the UK charts which, given the fact that the day when Eurovision winners did well had long gone, was quite an achievement. It went to number 1 in 7 other countries.
Since his top 10 debut, there has been nothing else from him, at least not in the UK.
Over in Norway, he did lend his voice to their dubbed version of the 2010 animated film "How to Train Your Dragon".

Until next time, I bid thee farewell

Guilty Pleasure - Eurovision Special

Welcome to my Eurovision countdown and I must say it is proving to be quite a task.
So many fantastic songs throughout the years and picking just ten is exhausting, not that I'm complaining. It's been lovely looking back through the archives of the contest.

Who is the next entry in my top 10? Read on and all will be revealed.

Number 8 Bobbysocks La Det Swinge aka Let it Swing (Norway)

Bobbysocks were Hanne Krogh and Elisabeth Andreassean and together they won the 1985 contest for Norway with this quirky little swing number.
They give a winning performance full of sparkle and energy and the orchestra, well what can you say except it is a swing song and when those instruments start a playing, boy do you want to swing.

Bobbysocks reached number 44 in the UK charts with their Eurovision winner and continued to work together until 1988. Up until their split, they released 3 albums and 10 singles. In 2010, a compilation album was released to celebrate 25 years since they won Eurovision and whilst not as successful as their previous releases, it did introduce them to a whole new audience.

Today, Eurovision's look has totally changed from the look of 1985 with everything produced on a much grander scale now. If Bobbysocks were to sing in the contest today, I doubt it would be a winner but I guarantee the audience would be up on their feet swinging to their hearts content.

Until next time, I bid thee farewell.

Friday 30 March 2012

Guilty Pleasure - Eurovision Special

Here we are folks. The next entry in my Eurovision countdown.

No 9 It's All About You by Juliana Pasha (Albania)

Albanian singer Juliana Pasha represented her country for Eurovision 2010 and came a very disappointing 16th place.
2 songs stood out for me in 2010's contest. This one and the entry from Iceland which finished 19th. Both songs were well staged, with the singers giving it their all and both received rapturous applause.
Why their scores were so disastrous is a mystery to me and just shows how different a countries taste in music can be.
Maybe it's my taste that is strange as the UK only gave Albania 1 point. Could it have been Juliana's uncanny resemblance to Jane Beale from Eastenders that cost her points with the UK's voters?
Personally, I felt that she should have finished top 3 and it is a travesty that she did not.

So why has this song ended up in my top 10? Because it's a fantastic dance song full of energy and great vocals with good backing vocals too, that's why. Plenty of songs were sung on the night but it was this that stole the show for me.

Germany won the contest with a rather dull song called Satellite and that is all I have to say about that one.

Until next time, I bid thee farewell.

Guilty Pleasure - Eurovision Special

Well here it is folks. The start of my Eurovision Countdown and where better to start than number 10.
If any of you agree with my choices or have any favourites of your own, just leave me a message.

Let the Eurovision frivolities commence.

No 10 One Step Further by Bardo (UK)

The Uk's entry for 1982's Eurovision was this jolly little song.
Bardo were actually tipped to win the contest but, as you will see watching the video, their performance on the night was less than average.
Luckily for me, I had heard the song already and absolutely loved it.
It was never going to win an NME award for best song but who cares. It served it's purpose by being a fun song with a catchy tune and, at the time, was good to dance to. What can I say, I'm gay and sometimes my musical tastes can be quite strange.

Sally Ann Triplett and Stephen Fischer were Bardo and formed just for Eurovision with plans to further their new found pop career after the contest.
Things did not get off to a good start with the act finishing 7th on the night. They fared better with the release of the song when it reached number 2 in the charts.
Unfortunately none of their other releases charted and they joined that elite group known as One Hit Wonders and separated.
They reformed under a new name and also became a duo romantically with Sally giving birth to their son in 1990 (thanks to Wikipedia for that little snippet of information).
A few years later, the relationship ended and they went their separate ways.

I honestly believe that if their performance had been better on that forsaken night, they would have indeed won the contest and who knows how the the future of Bardo could have turned out?

I am still the proud owner of One Step Further on 7" vinyl though I am not the owner of a record player. Thanks to YouTube, I recently listened to it again and was reminded of just how much I loved it and the temptation to download it from Amazon is proving very hard to resist.

Until next time, I bid thee farewell.

Guilty Pleasure - Eurovision Special

Yes folks, you read that correctly. The Eurovision Song Contest is indeed one of my guilty pleasures.

My earliest memory of watching Eurovision is in 1976 with my family. I was a mere 9 years old and Brotherhood of Man won the contest for the UK with Save all Your Kisses for Me. Who could ever forget that dance and don't any of  you dare deny that you didn't have a go at those moves like I did.

Eurovision was a big part of our life and we never missed it. We'd had our electricity cut off one year and were so desperate not to miss it that we made do with the radio.
There we were with a few candles and Eurovision blurting out of a small speaker. It was bliss and one of the memories I treasure most.

Katie Boyle and Terry Wogan were of course the King and Queen of Eurovision but I think Graham Norton is proving to be a most excellent host. As with his predecessors, you can tell he absolutely loves everything about it.

These days it has become a little too political with countries awarding points to their neighbours just to keep them happy, for fear of possible invasions or a ban from fishing in the other countries waters.
Never the less, I still love it and and even more so now that each year it is on, I visit my good friend Andy to watch it with him. We even go as far as awarding our own points and trying to predict who will win. I love it but Andy adores it. I'm not kidding, the man is like the encyclopedia Eurovision.

So why do I love it so? I could say it's because I'm gay and because it is as camp as Christmas. I could even say it's because sometimes the songs are so bad and the artists so ridiculous you just have to laugh out loud. There could be the possibility my addiction to Eurovision is all down to the hosts and their hilarious comments.
It is, however, none of the previous. The reason I love it so is quite simply because the contest unites countries through the art of music. Millions of people watch it every year and with each passing year, it becomes bigger and better and more importantly it becomes even more loved.
Yes there are those who ridicule it but they still watch it.
I think the Eurovision Song Contest will be with us for many more years and I would love it see it evolve into the World Song Contest. Not sure if the BBC could spare a whole day to show all the acts taking part but it sure would be fun to watch.

Leading up to this years contest, I will be compiling my top ten Eurovision acts. The list will contain acts that won and some that didn't and thanks to the wonders of YouTube, I will do my utmost to include a video (hopefully from the contest) for each one.

I hope you find it an interesting and enjoyable edition to my blog and please feel free to let me know your favourite Eurovision acts or songs.

Until next week when we start with number 10 in our countdown, I bid thee farewell.

Naveen - part 5: The night of the Ex!

Naveen had told me previously that he lodged at a friends house and that he had broken up with his boyfriend weeks ago. He had gone on to say that the reason the relationship broke down was because his ex had been too possessive, to the point where it scared him.
I didn't really give it a second thought except to say how awful it must have been for him.

The day after we had had the most perfect time, I was on Gaydar and Naveen sent a private chat request to which I quickly responded.
"David I had a lovely time yesterday and can't wait to be with you again" or "I really like you David". were what I was hoping to read. Is that what I read? Of course it wasn't. The first thing that came up was "I don't know what to do. I am so scared".

I asked Naveen what was wrong. It transpired that his ex had followed him to his friends house, somehow managed to gain entry and was now in the living room demanding to see him. Naveen was in his bedroom.
The first thing I said was that he should call the Police and tell them he was causing a disturbance. He didn't want to do this.
I asked why but he didn't really respond. I then asked how he had managed to gain entry? Naveen replied he had been banging on the door, shouting and cursing as he did." Even more reason to call the Police" I replied.
He then went on to say that he was really frightened, that this was not the first time it had happened and  that he did not want to live there anymore and that I was a really nice guy.
The penny dropped! He was after me saying he could move into my place. These words were not going to be said. After all, I had only known him for a few days.
Instead I advised him to calm down, phone the Police and inform them of what had happened and that he was frightened to leave his room.

We chatted a little more and then said our goodbyes. Part of me wanted to phone the Police myself but part of me was very suspicious and wondered if his ex was actually there at all? Part of me even thought he might be in the UK illegally. Was it bad of me to think this way? The days that followed confirmed that my latter thought could be true.

I had finished the conversation the previous night on Gaydar by asking Naveen to let me know he was ok the next day. The next day arrived and I heard nothing. The day after, nothing again. I sent a couple of text messages, tried calling and went online to see if he was on there. It was like he had vacated the planet and I was becoming a little worried. Maybe his ex had been there and something had happened.
After a few minutes, I could see he had logged on, so I sent the usual private chat request. He accepted and I asked if he was ok? He was and asked if I had had a good day?
I wanted to know what had happened but he said he did not want to talk about it.
"But why not"? I asked him. He said he didn't want to and tried to change the conversation by asking how Will and Grace were.
I was very troubled by his reaction and once again found myself wondering if the ex was just a lie?
Once again I asked if he was ok but this time he just replied with another random question about my day.
I couldn't help myself and asked him why he was being selective in his answers about the previous nights scare. He said he just wanted to forget about it.
My instincts were working overtime. Something was not right but I held my tongue and replied with "You're ok. That's the main thing".
The conversation appeared a little strained after that so I decided to call it a night and said we would chat tomorrow night. He agreed.

The next night arrived and I was waited for him to log on. Ten minutes went by, then twenty, then thirty and so on until an hour had gone by and no sign of Naveen.
I decided to call him but there was no answer.
This time my whole being was telling me that something was wrong and I decided to send him a message. The message went something like this:

Hi Naveen, Have tried contacting you several times but no answer. I'm kind of getting the feeling that you are avoiding me and can't help thinking it's to do with the other night. When we spoke about it, you were very selective in your answers and I am beginning to think that maybe you're ex just wasn't there. If he was, why on earth would you not call the Police, especially if you were as frightened as you say you were?

I clicked on the send tab. It was too late to turn back now.

A few hours later, Naveen was on Gaydar and we ended up chatting, mostly regarding my message. He said he just wanted to forget about it and couldn't understand why I wouldn't let it drop. He went on to say that he had been studying all day and switched his phone off. In the end I agreed to forget about it.
The rest of the chat was basically him saying how much he wanted to get away from his friends house. Once again my alarm bell was ringing but the thought of me seeing him and having his body next to mine again, overcame any negativity that was going around in my head.

The next night, I again tried to contact him and yet again there was no reply.
We had agreed I would call him at 7pm and arrange to meet up again. Two hours later, there was still no response.
This time I was furious and all I could think was that I had been played for a fool.
I went on Gaydar and sent the following message:

Once again I am unable to contact you even when we have agreed a time.
Congratulations. You wanted to play me for a fool. Well you have succeeded.
It is more than obvious that you have no intention of wanting to see me again and that is fine. What would have been nice, was if you had said right from the go that all you wanted was a bit of fun.  I am a grown man and too old to put up with silly games like this.

Was I doing the wrong thing, was I reading too much into the last few days? His reply kind of said I was. It went something like this:

Oh my god Dave! I have been at uni all day and forgot my phone.
I don't need all this drama and think that perhaps the best thing to do would be to forget about the whole thing.
As I won't be seeing them again, please give Will and Grace a hug from me.

My first thought was why did I send that message? Was I being over sensitive about the whole thing? My instincts were telling me that I was right. Up to our date, I had been able to contact Naveen at all times. Since the night of the ex, that hadn't been the case.
Had he wanted me to invite him to stay at mine and because I hadn't, he was no longer interested? Did the ex actually turn up?

I haven't seen Naveen in person since that first date. We have spoken on Gaydar a few times and even had a chat with him only a few weeks ago, a bizarre chat but never the less, he called me. He said we should meet up for coffee. The meet has yet to happen.
Out of all the men I have been with, he is most certainly in my top 3 and top 2 in the kissing department.
Would I sleep with him again? You bet I would. This time though, there would be no thoughts of a relationship. It would be just plain old fun.

Until next time, I bid thee farewell.

Naveen - part 4

I don't know why but I always presumed that Asian men always had average size cocks. Maybe this belief was fuelled by the fact that you don not see many of them in mainstream gay porn? One of my earlier encounters (Felix) was Indian and his was average size. I had made the mistake of tarring all Indians with the same brush. How wrong could I have been as here I was face to face with an absolute beast of a knob attached to a guy from India.
It was quite slender which I was thankful for. At least I wouldn't get lockjaw.
I took a deep breathe and started my approach, first the tip and then slowly taking a bit more until I had about three quarters of his shaft in my mouth. Naveen let out a gasp as I increased the speed and a moan every time I went down to the base.
(Those of you impressed by me being able to reach the base, well what can I say...it was bloody awesome work by me)
I needed to stop for a breather so I let Naveen have a turn on me. He was very very good but I was itching to go down on him again. Wanting the best of both pleasures, we ended up in the 69 position. Having tried this before with previous encounters and it never really being that great, I was rather sceptical of trying it again. I needn't have been concerned. With Naveen it was pure toe curling ecstasy. My whole body was a mass of tingling sensations and I didn't want it to stop.
Eventually the word intercourse raised it's head. I grabbed a condom from the drawer and watched him as he rolled it onto his manhood.
I'm not a legs over the shoulders kind of guy, more of a on my side and front or on top. On this occasion I chose to turn onto my side. A splash of lube here and there and we were ready for action.
Naveen took aim and within seconds, the tip of his protected penis was inside me. I gasped and then shouted out "BLOODY HELL". He had made the mistake of thrusting before I was relaxed. Just how painful was it? It was bad. Needless to say, he withdrew straight away.
"Shit shit shit" I cried "that bloody hurt".
He couldn't apologise enough and was most distraught that he was the cause of this pain. I could see he had just been a little too eager and hadn't meant to hurt me, so I wiped away my tears and suggested he let me guide him in and guide him in I did. First the tip, followed by a couple of inches then another inch until, within a minute, we had full penetration.
"Now you can start thrusting" I laughed at him and so he did, slowly at first but gradually speeding up. I rolled onto my front with him still inside me, feeling quite pleased with myself for being able to achieve this.
The pleasure I was feeling took me back to my encounter with Tristram, only this time I was determined not not cry out like a banshee.
We changed positions again, this time with Naveen on his back and me riding him. I have to admit, this way is one of my favourite positions mainly due to the fact that I am the one in control. One can speed it up or slow it down whenever one pleases.
On this day, I was at full speed. So fast that if we had been wired up, I am sure there would have been enough electricity generated for several household appliances.
We were both about to reach planet orgasm so I detached myself from Naveen's penis and suggested he masturbate the rest of the way. As he did, I caressed his testicles ever so gently. With each caress he let out a moan. I kissed his chest, his neck and finally his lips, all the while his hand vigorously tossing away.
He screamed out with pure pleasure as I watched several eruptions of sperm shoot out onto his stomach, some landing closer to his chest. I took over to make sure he got every last drop out and then went down on him one last time.
After a minute or so, I stopped and looked at him.."my turn now" I said.
It didn't take long and before I knew it, there was more sperm on Naveen's body. Like him, I let out several moans with each wave of my orgasm. After the last tingle, we embraced and kissed, the produce of our hour of passion now joining forces.
It had ended perfectly.

We lay there for a few minutes basking in the afterglow. I turned to Naveen and suggested we take a bath. This we did and within half an hour we were both clean, fully dressed and ready to go. He was going to catch the bus back into Leeds so I said I would walk him to the bus stop.
Before we left, Naveen turned to me and said he really liked me and couldn't wait to see me again. We had one more kiss and then were on our way.

Tune in next week for the final part in this encounter. I'm off for a cold shower,so until next week, I bid thee farewell.

Naveen - part 3

The cup of tea I made for myself and Naveen was most welcome especially as the walk back to my place had been a very cold journey.
We had found quite a lot to talk about and the chat continued at mine. He was very taken with my cats Will and Grace which of course is only natural. They are beautiful cats after all.

We both knew exactly what we were at mine for. The question was, who was going to make the first move?
The way he looked at me made me believe he wanted to kiss me. Truth be known, I wanted to do the same to him but it was more than obvious that we were both a little nervous.
In the end I decided to take the bull by the horns and I just asked Naveen if he would like to kiss me? He did.
I eased my way over to his side and we did, soft and sensual, just how I like it. Each one filled me with pleasure and I hoped it felt the same for him too.
It did. He snuggled up close to me and I could feel his erect penis through his trousers. I was beginning to feel excited myself, especially when I started to caress his buttocks which were most firm. I then made my way to his front and undid his trousers, making it easier for me to slip my hand in. My hands wandered back to his perfect and now bare butt. The excitement I was feeling, increased ten fold.
Naveen unbuttoned his shirt and revealed his rather slim but beautiful torso.
We started kissing again and whilst we did, he slipped his hands under my top and held me in his firm but erotic grasp. I responded by moving my hand to his crotch, slowly slipping it into his briefs and grabbing hold. His penis felt huge.
All was going well so we decided it was time to move things to the bedroom. Will and Grace followed us but were quickly shown the door.
Naveen stripped down to his briefs. To say they were ghastly is an understatement. I felt a little twinge of disappointment that they weren't Calvins, Hugo Boss or even a nice pair of Next. The disappointment soon died when I noticed the massive bulge inside the briefs. I was a little nervous that he may be too big. Dislocating my jaw was not on the agenda for me.
I took my trainers and socks of, quickly followed by my jeans and finally my top. I WAS wearing nice underwear, Calvins if I remember rightly.
We slipped under the duvet  and started kissing again. This time our hands were all over each others bodies. Within seconds we were both minus our underwear. The bulge that had made me feel nervous was now a huge throbbing penis and I was about to try and take it in my mouth.

Tune in next week to find out what happened next.

Until then, I bid thee farewell.

Happy Valentine's Day

It's that time of the year when lovers, young and old, like to show the world just how much they care for each other by sending cards, proposing marriage and buying red roses and assortments of a heart shaped nature. It's Valentine's Day!
For me it is yet another year without that special someone to celebrate this most romantic of days with. It nearly happened but, alas, it was not meant to be and we went our seperate ways. So close yet so far. Altogether now....sob sob, weep weep!

To cheer myself up, I have decided to do a special Valentine edition of my blog.

So who would I like as my Valentine? Read on and ye shall find out.

The famous stud muffin I would love to spend Valentine's Day with is American, sings for a living and even managed to win himself a Grammy last year. I speak of Mr Bruno Mars.
Hey Bruno..would you catch a grenade for me?
At 5'5", Mr Mars is the perfect height. Include his stunning looks, perfect
pearly whites, the most cheesiest of smiles and that ever so soulful singing voice of his and he is the perfect choice for me.

Born in Hawaii and coming from a musical family, it was inevitable that Bruno (not his real name by the way) would end up singing and performing for a living.
He's a mixture of Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley and a little bit of James Brown thrown in for good measure.
He is an absolute delight to listen to and when he dances, well all I can say is it tires me out just watching him..he's so energetic!

The guy is just so cool!
Grenade, Just the Way You Are and The Lazy Song are just three of his releases and each one brilliant. The dance version of Just the Way You Are is amazing.

I think Bruno Mars is going to be around for quite a while yet but if he wants to keep me as a fan then I suggest he makes his way over to the UK, catch a train to Leeds, taxi to my place and take me out for a Valentine supper. Who knows, if all goes well, we could be having a very lazy day the next day...though not too lazy thank you very much.

Until next time folks...Happy Valentine's Day!

Naveen - part 2

Myself and Naveen had found a quiet spot in Queens Court and were chatting along nicely. His parents still lived in India and he was in the UK on his own.
It was quite amusing listening to him talk, as there were certain words he couldn't quite master. I had to be quite alert when he came across one so I could guess what he was trying to say. There were the odd few where I had to ask him to repeat the sentence. On one, I had to ask him at least three times to repeat it and in the end just pretended I understood. Even though it was a bit tiresome, I did also find it rather cute of him.
He was very attractive but his dress sense, which consisted of a white shirt and black trousers, was not appealing. It was smart but not very trendy and I do like a man who makes the effort to impress.
I asked if he had come straight from work, thinking that maybe this was why he was dressed this way, but he had left his job a few weeks ago and was now unemployed.
This did not bode well with me but I didn't show it and he did say he was trying to find something else.
It was at about this time that the curly fries I had ordered arrived. On the subject of curly fries, can I just say Queens Court..there were far too many. I had ordered for one but there was enough for two or even three people. Still, better too much than too little.
I offered Naveen some of the fries but he declined. Looking at his figure, I got the impression that he was careful with what he ate and fries were a no no.

We ordered another round of drinks and then got down to the serious stuff. I asked why he went for older men and in particular, why me?
He had had enough of one night stands with guys his age who said they wanted more but finished it after they had got what they wanted. I could relate to this.
The reason he fancied me? Well I'd like to say it was because of my dashing looks and Adonis like body but he just said I seemed like a nice guy. It was enough to keep me interested and we continued to chat.
He loved to walk, watch horror films and was studying architecture at university.
I told him quite a bit abut myself and he seemed to be genuinely interested.
We finished our drinks and as we had been in Queens Court for a couple of hours, I asked him if he'd like to go somewhere else? He thought that was a good idea.
I suggested we go for a cuppa and as he had told me he liked to do this, why not take a steady walk to my place? He thought this was an even better idea.
We thanked the bar staff and off we went, though as soon as we set foot outside, I regretted my suggestion to walk. It was freezing!

Want to know what happened next? Tune in next week to find out.

Until then, I bid thee farewell.

Naveen - part 1

Hi folks. Sorry for the delay but here it is, the latest of my confessions.

Naveen had sent me a private chat request and as I had looked at his profile on Gaydar a few days earlier and thought he was pretty cute, I accepted.
He was only 22 which is why I had removed my trace when I originally looked. 22 was just a little too young but I didn't want to appear rude.
Naveen was a student at Leeds University and originated from India.
He thought I looked nice and was attracted to the older man. Being nearly double his age, I definitely fell into that category. He was also looking for a serious relationship as he was fed up with one night stands.
My original thoughts were how can someone so young be looking for a serious relationship. Surely at his age, it's all about having fun? The alarm bell in my head was ringing but I continued to chat.
After an hour or so, he asked if we could meet up. My gut feeling was to say no but he was coming across as a rather nice chap, so I said yes instead.
We arranged to meet at Queens Court a couple of days later.

Two days later, there I was outside Queens Court. We had exchanged numbers so I sent a message to Naveen letting him know I was there. He had never been to QC which is why I was waiting outside.
Seconds later I received a call. It was Naveen asking for directions. It turned out he was actually quite close and within two minutes of receiving the call, we were in Queens Court.

We made our way to the bar and I ordered our drinks. The barman looked at me and then asked if I had id. I looked at him and asked if he was joking?
He wasn't and requested id to prove I was 25. I didn't have anything except credit cards.
"Well how old are you" he asked in a very sarcastic manner to which I replied "I will be 44 in August".
The barman looked at me vacantly and then said "Oh!...I wished I still got asked for id".
He served me my drinks and I walked away with he biggest smile on my face.
Naveen wasn't asked for id which just made me feel even better.

So far the date was going just swell. Tune in next week to find out what happened next.

Until then, I bid thee farewell.

Luke - part 3

So there we were, myself and Luke in Queens Court having a most splendid time. A little bit of chat and lots of kissing took place with the odd nibble on the ear thrown in for good measure. I could not believe that this absolutely stunning guy was interested in me. Any doubts I had about his intentions were forgotten with each kiss from him. I was the hummingbird..he was the nectar.
We decided to go for a dance and as we walked towards the dance floor, Luke held my hand. I was literally being swept off my feet by him.
Steps were very popular at that time and whenever one of their songs came on, the dance floor would suddenly be chock a block.
It was a a bit of squeeze but it didn't matter. We spent most of the duration of the songs with our arms round each other, partaking in even more kissing. Try and imagine an attempt at the world record for most amount of kissing in one night..Luke and I were smashing it!

Queens Court was about to close for the night so now was the time to decide what we would do next. I asked if he would like to stay at mine? He was more than happy to accept my invite. I was even happier!
When we reached my place , I realised all I had in to drink was a small bottle of Smirnoff Ice. We decided to share it but I felt like a rubbish host. After that night, I made sure I at least had a bottle of wine in my fridge, just in case.
After a bit of chatting, cuddling and even more kissing, it was time for bed and it is here that I made what was probably the worst decision I have ever made. I actually looked Luke in the face and said that nothing would happen tonight because I had work the next day. He was fine with this and at the time, I thought I was doing the right thing.
We made our way to the bedroom and stripped to our underwear. He had a beautiful body and knowing that I would soon be lying beside him made me so happy. The temptation to take things further was agonising but I settled for more kisses and cuddles. Eventually we both drifted off to sleep.

The following morning I awoke feeling happier than I had felt in a long time. Luke woke up a few minutes later. It felt a little strange someone else being in my bed. After all, this was the first guy I had ever invited back to mine.

At work that day I told a few people of my brilliant night. They were very happy for me, especially as they knew how much I liked Luke.
I bumped into Rob and after apologising for kind of dumping him at the QC, I told him what happened after he had gone home. He was mortified that we didn't have sex and said I should have phoned in sick.
On reflection, his idea did make sense.  I had longed to be with a guy for ages and definitely had the chance with Luke but put work first. The word idiot was well suited for me at that moment.

I was working an evening shift at Blockbuster after work and had arranged for Luke to meet me there. He was staying at mine again and this time sex was on the agenda and work could go to Hell.
I was so eager to get home as quickly as possible, I asked my mate Danny (who was also working) if he could give us a lift home. He was happy to oblige.

After a little supper, I put on my fake yawn and said I was ready to go to bed. Once again we stripped to our underwear and within minutes were in bed.
I faced Luke and said to him "I really like you Luke so where do we go from here"?
His reply was " I like you too..as a friend".
Those few words caused such devastation inside me but I knew I couldn't show it, so my response was "If I had known that was what you were going to say, we would have had sex last night".
I really didn't have much else to say after that apart from "Goodnight".
That night I didn't sleep very well. If he wasn't interested, why on earth was he asleep in my bed with me at his side? I just didn't understand.

We met a few more times after that night and he even slept at mine a couple more occasions. I suppose I was hoping he would eventually see me as more than a friend. It wasn't to be though.

The last time I spoke to Luke, he had recently married and also had a couple of children. I didn't bother asking him if he was bi or was now totally straight.

It's been quite a few years since I saw Luke but I can't help but smile at the thought of him. He totally had me smitten.
Of all the guys I have seen since him, none has ever kissed as good as he did and that first night we slept together is the best nights sleep I have ever had.
Was he playing me for a fool. Was it me. Was he unsure of his sexuality or did he really like me but just chickened out? Unless I ever bump into him again to ask him these questions, I will never know.

Until next time, I bid thee farewell.
